Midnight Sun Earrings
The Midnight Sun Earrings have been designed with the ‘New Frontiers’ concept in mind, and feature platinum and pave set white diamonds. The earrings are tear drop shaped in contrast to the sharp jagged edges of the centre.
The ‘New Frontiers’ theme suggests images of space and the solar system creating contrasting visions of rounded planets and the jagged surfaces of the planets and meteors. The moon itself has huge craters and a ‘dark side’. It is also the light we see shining through the night – hence ‘Midnight Sun’. The hole in the middle of the piece is symbolic of a moon’s deep mysterious caverns. The diamonds represent the light and the reflective nature of the moon and stars in the night sky.

As a designer to have your designs recognised by industry professionals is a real honour, and to win an award as prestigious as the Lonmin DIA makes that recognition even more special. I believe that the award will also help drive awareness of my own label, Kasun London, which launched in the summer of 2012 and has been going from strength to strength. We will be exhibiting at IJL this year for the first time and to have our stand as well as our winning piece on display will be great exposure for the brand and top off what has already been a great year.”

Kasun Ekanayake is the Creative Director and co-founder of Kasun London. Born in Sri Lanka, Kasun grew up in New Zealand where he learnt his craft. Moving to the UK in 2007 Kasun set up Kasun London with his business partner in 2012. The Kasun London brand is about creating high quality jewellery which is playful and quirky but always beautiful.
